DON'T FORGET WHO LIFTED YOU

Psalm 103:1–5 (NKJV)

"Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits."

Deut. 8:2 (NKJV)
"And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not."

–––

One of the greatest dangers after God answers our prayers...

...is forgetting the God who answered them.

We remember the breakthrough.

But we forget the battle.

We celebrate the blessing.

But we overlook the One who gave it.

A grateful heart doesn't just count blessings.

It remembers the Lifter.

David speaks to his own soul:

"Forget not all His benefits."

Why?

Because forgetfulness is one of the greatest enemies of gratitude.

The human heart has a strange tendency. It quickly adapts to yesterday's miracles and begins worrying about tomorrow's needs.

Israel forgot the God who parted the Red Sea.

The disciples forgot the God who multiplied bread.

Even we can forget the God who has carried us through seasons we once thought would destroy us.

Notice what David remembers:

God forgives.

He heals.

He redeems.

He crowns.

He satisfies.

These are not occasional acts of God.

They reveal His character.

When you remember what God has done, you begin to see who He has always been.

The God who lifted your head yesterday is the same God who will sustain you tomorrow.

Pause for a moment.

Think back one year.

There were prayers you whispered through tears.

Battles you thought you would never survive.

Doors you believed would never open.

Yet here you are.

Still standing.

Still breathing.

Still growing.

Still held by grace.

Not because life has been easy...

But because God has been faithful.

Some victories become so familiar that we stop calling them miracles.

Waking up.

Having strength to keep going.

Finding peace after heartbreak.

Receiving another chance.

These are all quiet reminders that the Lifter of your head has never stopped working.

Gratitude changes the posture of the soul.

Instead of asking,

"God, what haven't You done?"

It begins to ask,

"Lord, how have I overlooked all You've already done?"

Thanksgiving lifts your eyes from what is missing to the God who has been faithfully present all along.

A grateful heart doesn't deny life's struggles.

It simply refuses to let those struggles overshadow God's goodness.

Have I become so focused on my next miracle that I've forgotten to thank God for the countless ways He has already lifted me?

Father, today I pause to remember. Thank You for every battle You brought me through, every prayer You answered, every danger You kept me from, and every unseen mercy that sustained me. Thank You for forgiving me when I failed, strengthening me when I was weak, providing for me when I lacked, and lifting my head when I had no strength left. Keep my heart from the sin of forgetfulness. Let gratitude become my daily posture, and may my life continually testify that You are the faithful God who never stops lifting Your children. In Jesus' name, Amen

The quickest way to strengthen your faith for tomorrow is to remember who carried you through yesterday. Never forget the God who lifted your head.
