KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING

GOD WILL FIGHT WHAT FIGHTS YOU

October 2, 2026 | Day 275

Focus:When what holds you is stronger than you are, God is still strong enough to break its hold.

TODAY’S LIGHT:
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FIGHTING

Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Sometimes we focus all our energy on the person in front of us, while overlooking the deeper battle taking shape around us.

A disagreement becomes resentment.
A misunderstanding becomes a war.
A difficult person becomes the enemy.

Before long, we are fighting the person instead of seeking God’s wisdom about the battle.

What if you are fighting the wrong enemy?

Paul reminds us: “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood.” He is not saying that people never cause harm, that conflict should be ignored, or that wrongdoing should go unchallenged. He is reminding us that the struggle reaches beyond what we can see.

The word wrestle points to a close, intense struggle. This is not a call to panic or suspicion; it is a call to spiritual discernment. If we misunderstand the nature of the battle, we may reach for the wrong weapons. And when we treat a person as the ultimate enemy, we can damage a relationship while leaving the deeper conflict untouched.

Think about how quickly it can happen:

A spouse says something hurtful.
A colleague undermines you.
Someone misunderstands your intentions.
A family member disappoints you.
A person opposes your progress.

The natural response may be: I have to fight this person.

But Scripture calls us to pause and look deeper. We can confront what is wrong without being consumed by hatred. We can set boundaries without becoming bitter. We can resist evil without treating every person as the enemy.

Discernment does not mean excusing harmful behavior or avoiding necessary action. It means asking God how to respond with truth, wisdom, courage, and a guarded heart.

HERE IS THE SHIFT:

From: “This person is my enemy.”
To: “I need discernment to understand the real nature of this battle.”

That shift changes how you pray.
It changes how you respond.
It changes the weapons you use.
And it helps protect your heart as you face what must be confronted.

CARRY THE LIGHT:

Who have you begun to see as your enemy because of a conflict?

Are you attacking a person when you should be addressing the problem?

Have anger or resentment made it harder to see the battle clearly?

TODAY, I WILL
Refuse to fight people blindly. I will ask God for discernment before I respond to opposition.

Father, give me discernment in the battles I face. Help me recognize the true nature of the struggles around me. Keep me from responding to people with anger when You are calling me to act with prayer, wisdom, truth, and righteousness.

Guard my heart from bitterness. Teach me when to speak, when to stand firm, when to resist, and when to walk away. Help me confront what is wrong without losing sight of Your way. Let me never mistake a person for the ultimate enemy.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you misidentify the enemy, you may fight the wrong battle with the wrong weapons.
